
Patrick Atkinson is a Minneapolis executive who leads The GOD’S CHILD Project as its founder and international executive director. Since he launched the international nonprofit in 1991, he has directed efforts across Africa, South Asia, and Central America. The work of Patrick Atkinson and The GOD’S CHILD Project focuses on a number of areas, including constructing medical clinics and schools and educating children without homes or families.
The organization maintains a roster of 5,000 children participating in various programs and assists 8,700 mothers and their dependents. Atkinson additionally leads the Institute for Trafficked, Exploited & Missing Persons (ITEMP), with impetus from a 2001 experience of being held at gunpoint while performing United Nations contract work in Southeast Africa. While he and others looked on, a group of men took all the teenagers and young women from the village. With a base in Minneapolis, the ITEMP works throughout Minnesota and in 38 nations in pursuing anti-human trafficking strategies.
In addition to his responsibilities as a nonprofit chief executive officer, Atkinson delivers approximately 150 presentations annually on human-trafficking and safe-dating topics at schools and churches of any denomination.
